Ryan read the messages without emotion. This wasn't satisfaction, not yet. This was only part of what Madison had earned.

On Wednesday night, the knock came: loud, desperate. Ryan opened the door to find Madison standing there, eyes red, suitcase in hand.

"Celia kicked me out," she blurted, naming her best friend. "She said I'm toxic. I have nowhere else to go. Please, Ryan. I just need one night."

Ryan leaned on the doorframe, arms crossed. "Not my problem."

"Three years," she pleaded, voice breaking. "We were together three years."

Ryan's eyes were sharp. "Were. Past tense."

Tears streaked her face. "You destroyed my life over a kiss!"

Ryan's expression hardened. "For the last time, it wasn't just a kiss. You had an affair. Emotional, physical, deceitful. You lied to me, to your co-workers, to everyone."

Her voice cracked. "I could have kept it secret, but you—"

Ryan cut her off, calm but brutal. "You didn't want to keep it secret. You wanted me to believe I was insecure. You wanted to twist me into thinking boundaries made me weak."

She shook her head, sobbing. "I loved you!"

"No," Ryan said quietly, his voice like a blade. "You loved having someone to cook your meals and clean your mess while you chased excitement behind my back."

Madison stood there trembling until Ryan slowly pushed the door closed. Her sobs echoed in the hallway, but he didn't open it again.

For the first time in weeks, the apartment was silent. And Ryan finally felt the faint stirrings of peace. But deep inside, he knew this story wasn't finished yet. Because people like Madison didn't fade quietly; they clawed for control until the very end. And when she tried again, Ryan would be ready.

The messages started the very next day, from an unknown number: "You ruined my life. Danielle left me. She cleaned out our apartment. I had to move back in with my parents."
