Rock singer David Roach, longtime frontman of the band Scrapyard, is now facing what his bandmates describe as “the toughest battle of his life” after being diagnosed with aggressive squamous cell carcinoma that has spread throughout several areas of his body.

Roach, who has performed with the group for more than 30 years, learned on June 24 that the cancer had progressed to his head, neck, and throat, leaving him in need of round-the-clock care.

A Devastating Diagnosis

Scrapyard first revealed Roach’s illness earlier this year in a heartfelt Instagram announcement:

“We all know and love David Roach—not just as our incredible singer, but as a true friend, an inspiration, and a fighter. Right now, he’s facing one of the toughest battles of his life: an aggressive cancer diagnosis.”

The band also shared that Roach is selling pieces of his own plaque artwork to help cover medical expenses, urging fans to support him through purchases, donations, or even by spreading the word.

A Sudden Turn for the Worse

Recently, Roach and his fiancée, Jennifer, issued a joint statement after a frightening visit to the emergency room. Roach had been experiencing persistent fever and a worsening cough, symptoms that ultimately led to alarming test results.

“We got results that have completely shattered our world,” the statement read.
“It’s devastating and life-altering, and we’re trying to navigate the emotions and uncertainty that come with it.”

Despite the crushing news, they emphasized Roach’s unwavering spirit:

“David is showing such incredible strength and resilience. Even in the midst of this darkness, he’s still managing to keep his sense of humor. It’s a reminder of how amazing he is.”

They added that although the road ahead will be extremely difficult, Roach is not giving up hope.

A Community Rallies Behind Him

A GoFundMe campaign has since been launched to support both Roach and Jennifer, who left her job to become his full-time caregiver. The fundraiser highlights Roach’s reputation as someone with “a knack for making people feel special and appreciated,” while underscoring the financial pressure the couple now faces.

“Right now, David is in a serious situation. The financial strain from medical expenses and daily living costs is piling up,” the page reads. “He’s struggling to keep a roof over his head without any income while fighting this cancer.”

A Call for Support

As Roach and Jennifer move forward “one step at a time,” they continue to ask for prayers, encouragement, and compassion from fans and friends across the globe.

“Your kindness and support mean everything to us,” they wrote. “Please keep David in your thoughts.”
