"I'd like you and Norine to stay," he said. "Not as staff. As family, if you'll let us."

Rosie's eyes filled with tears she didn't bother hiding.

Norine ran up moments later, breathless, holding out a single wildflower she'd picked from the garden. "For you," she said to Thomas, entirely unaware that her small hands had already given him something far greater than a flower.
