Supermarket staff reveal: 6 things never buy in supermarkets even on big sale

Smart Consumers Often Avoid Buying These Items at the Supermarket

When you go to the supermarket, it’s almost certain that you’ll be drawn to products on sale. You may feel like you’re making a smart purchase and saving a significant amount of money when buying these discounted goods.

However, supermarket employees have revealed an important truth: not all discounted items are worth buying.

Pre-cut Fruit in the Supermarket

Supermarkets often display a wide variety of fresh fruit, including pre-cut fruit. These are sliced into small pieces, neatly arranged in trays, and tightly packaged. They look appealing and fresh from the outside—you only need to buy and enjoy them immediately.

Their price may also seem reasonable. However, behind this attractive appearance, the quality is often not as good as it seems.

Pre-cut fruit trays are often made from leftover parts after removing bruised or damaged sections. If you look closely, you’ll realize that without cutting away the bad parts, no one would choose to buy these fruits. Instead, staff trim off the spoiled portions, select the better-looking pieces, and package them for sale. While they may appear fresh and convenient, their flavor and quality have already declined significantly.

Discounted Milk

Supermarkets frequently run promotions on milk, such as discounts or “buy one, get one free” offers. However, you shouldn’t buy too much just because it’s cheap. Most discounted milk products are usually close to their expiration date.

If you’re sure you can finish them before the use-by date, it’s fine to buy a small amount. But stocking up excessively just because of the discount isn’t advisable.

Out-of-season Food

Out-of-season produce is often much more expensive—something no homemaker finds surprising. Unless it’s absolutely necessary, you should avoid buying these products at the supermarket.

Choosing seasonal foods is a smart way to enjoy delicious meals at reasonable prices while ensuring the health and safety of your family.

Discounted Frozen Seafood

Seafood is a favorite for many people, and seeing it on sale can be tempting.

However, discounted seafood is often the result of being stored for too long, which reduces both freshness and quality. When you cook it at home, the flavor won’t be as good, and its nutritional value is also significantly lower.

Pre-ground Meat

Ground meat is a convenient option for many shoppers, as it saves the time and effort of chopping or grinding meat at home. Yet, those neatly packed trays may not always guarantee freshness. Pre-ground meat is often made from leftover cuts, fat, or meat that has been stored for a long time.

Packaged Sauces

Supermarkets also sell a variety of ready-made sauces, such as marinades for grilled meat or salad dressings. While convenient, they often come with major downsides.

The best choice is to make your own sauces at home. Doing so helps you save money, ensure food safety, and control ingredients—without harmful preservatives.
