Dog food sold at Walmart recalled for containing "loose metal pieces"
Our pets are like our children, so it’s important to keep a close eye on what they are eating. The wrong food can be very harmful to a pet’s health.
Recently, an urgent recall from a major retailer has hundreds throwing away their dog food after it was found to contain metal pieces.
Mars Petcare, the world’s best-selling pet food company, recently announced a voluntary recall of a Pedigree brand dog food that has been sold at many Walmart locations.

The affected product, Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food in a 44-pound “value size” bag, was recalled due to the “potential presence of loose metal pieces,” according to an FDA release.
There have been no reported cases of injury or illness regarding the dog food, but the metal pieces could be harmful.
“The potential presence of loose metal pieces in the bag could pose a health hazard to pets,” the release states. “If you believe your pet has consumed the affected product, you should monitor for unusual behavior and contact a veterinarian in the event of any concerns.”

It is a limited recall affecting only 315 bags that were sold at stores in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Walmart has provided a list of stores that carried the potentially contaminated product.
The affected bags have a best by date of March 4, 2025 and have a lot code of 410B2TXT02. If you have purchased the affected product, you should stop using it and contact Mars Petcare US consumer care at 1-800-525-5273 to initiate a return.
No other Pedigree or Mars Petcare products are being recalled.
It’s always important to check pet food recalls — you never know if you have some potentially harmful pet food in your home.
