Naomi brought up the timestamped video on her tablet and held the screen where everyone could see it. The recording showed Maya standing at the top of the steps while Pike approached her. His hand reached out, grabbed her wrist, and Maya pulled back without ever advancing toward him. Pike's confident expression faltered as the video contradicted his written statement.
The clip was simple enough that no interpretation was required. Maya's feet remained visible at the top of the steps. Pike was the one who climbed toward her, closed the distance, and reached first. The report in Maya's pocket described the reverse. For Cole and Mercer, the discrepancy was no longer an argument about tone or memory. It was a written statement contradicted by a camera within seconds.
Cole stepped forward. "That's not what the report says." "Officer Cole," Pike snapped. "Return to your vehicle."
"No, Sergeant. The report says Agent Carter approached you aggressively. The video shows she never left the top step. She never moved toward you at all."
Mercer studied the tablet. "The footage is pretty clear." Pike's face reddened. "I don't care what some manipulated video shows. I know what happened."
Naomi replayed the clip. "This is raw security data with embedded timestamps. The files uploaded automatically to encrypted storage." "Give me that device," Pike demanded, reaching toward the tablet.
Naomi pulled it back. "This is private property containing federal evidence." "Mercer, help me seize that tablet."
Mercer shook his head. "Not without a warrant, Sergeant. That's FBI equipment on private property." Pike turned toward Shaw. "Then you do it."
Shaw looked from Pike to the tablet. "Sergeant, maybe we should..." "Maybe we should what?"
Cole pulled out his own copy of the report. "I can't sign this. It doesn't match what actually happened." "You'll sign whatever I tell you to sign," Pike snarled.
"No. I witnessed the encounter. Agent Carter never advanced on anyone. She defended herself when you grabbed her without justification."
Mercer nodded. "Cole's right. I saw the same thing."
Pike's control finally snapped. He shoved Cole backward across the yard. Cole stumbled but stayed on his feet.
"Your career is over," Pike shouted. "Both of you. I'll make sure you never work in law enforcement again. You're choosing criminals over your own department."
Cole straightened and looked directly at his sergeant. "I'm choosing the truth over lies." Maya's voice cut through Pike's rage. "Sergeant, you just shoved one of your own officers in front of federal agents while pressuring him to support a false statement. Now two officers are willing to testify that your official report is fabricated."
Pike turned toward her. Maya did not move. "Two officers just became witnesses against your version of events."
Pike's breathing came in short, angry bursts. Shaw stayed near his shoulder, waiting for orders, while Cole and Mercer stood several feet away. "This ends now," Pike said. "Shaw, we're going around to the side entrance. Emergency authority to secure evidence before it gets destroyed."
Maya stepped down one step and positioned herself between Pike and the side yard. "There is no emergency. You have no warrant." "I don't need a warrant when evidence is being tampered with," Pike shot back.
Shaw approached Maya's position. "Agent Carter, please step aside." "No." Shaw reached for her forearm and tried to pull her away. "I'm sorry, but you need to move."
Maya reacted immediately, breaking his grip and briefly controlling his arm against the porch railing without striking him. "Release me," she said calmly. Shaw tried to pull free. "Let go." "When you stop grabbing federal agents."
Pike charged toward the steps. Naomi moved down to meet him and redirected his forward movement away from the porch. Pike stumbled into the grass and regained his balance, furious but uninjured. The entire physical exchange lasted only seconds.
Maya released Shaw and returned to the porch. Pike pointed at the twins. "You assaulted police officers."
Cole stepped forward. "No. They defended themselves. Shaw grabbed Agent Carter first, and you charged toward Agent Carter. They used minimal force to protect themselves."
Mercer agreed. "Pike, you initiated both contacts. The agents responded defensively." Pike spun toward them. "You're supposed to support your sergeant."
"We're supposed to support the truth," Cole replied. Shaw looked increasingly conflicted. "Sergeant, maybe we should just leave." "We're not leaving until I secure that evidence."
Mercer shook his head. "I'm not participating in an unlawful search. Neither should Shaw." Pike pulled out his radio. "Then both of you can explain yourselves to the lieutenant."
Within minutes, Lieutenant Keller's vehicle returned to the driveway. He stepped out slowly and surveyed the scene. Pike, Shaw, Cole, and Mercer were scattered across the yard, while Maya and Naomi remained alert on the porch. "What happened here?" Keller demanded.
Pike answered immediately. "The suspects physically attacked Shaw and me when we attempted to secure evidence. Cole and Mercer refused to provide backup."
"That's not accurate, Lieutenant," Cole said. "Sergeant Pike ordered an unlawful search. When Agent Carter blocked his path, Shaw grabbed her. She defended herself without striking anyone. Pike then charged toward Agent Carter's sister, and she redirected him away. Both agents showed restraint."
Keller looked from one officer to another. "So my own men are contradicting each other." Mercer stepped forward. "Lieutenant, the agents acted professionally. Pike escalated unnecessarily."
