She retreated to the wine cellar, her hands shaking not from fear, but from a quiet, building rage. This was the man who had stolen her future. And yet, watching him flounder with his guests, Chloe realized something crucial: Caldwell was incredibly vulnerable tonight. He had brought no translator. His usual team of sycophants was absent. He was entirely dependent on his own charm—a trait he severely lacked—to close a multi-billion-dollar deal with men whose cultures and languages he completely disrespected.

The stage was set. The pieces were on the board. Chloe popped the cork on the champagne.

For the next two hours, Chloe delivered a masterclass in invisible service. She poured wine, cleared plates, and presented the Michelin-starred courses with synchronized perfection, all while remaining a fly on the wall to the unfolding disaster at table seven.

Richard Caldwell was spectacularly botching the negotiation. He was pushing too hard, too fast. He constantly interrupted Alejandro, dismissed Lorenzo's concerns about union regulations in Italy, and laughed off Klaus's strict demands for structural engineering audits. To Caldwell, money was a blunt instrument. He didn't understand that to these old-money European families, respect and nuance were just as critical as profit margins.

"Look, Klaus," Caldwell barked, slicing into his medium-rare steak with unnecessary force. "You Germans always overthink things. Just sign the damn compliance waiver. It's a formality. We'll handle the safety inspectors stateside. Money talks, right?"

Klaus's jaw tightened. "In Germany, Herr Caldwell, a compliance waiver is not a formality. It is a legal binding of honor."

Caldwell rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Honor. Let's talk about the profit projections."

Chloe approached the table carrying a tray holding a decanter of a $3,000 Bordeaux. She stepped to Caldwell's right, adhering to standard fine-dining protocol, and leaned in carefully to pour his glass.

At that exact moment, Jean-Luc leaned forward, speaking in a thick French accent. "Richard, I must agree with Klaus. Your projections for the Marseille port expansion... they are highly optimistic. The local syndicates will never allow this speed."

"The French unions are a joke!" Caldwell exploded, throwing his hands up in exasperation.

As he threw his arm back, his elbow slammed directly into the heavy crystal decanter Chloe was holding. The impact violently knocked the glass from her grip. Chloe tried to catch it, but gravity won.

The decanter shattered against the edge of the table, sending a tidal wave of crimson wine cascading directly onto Caldwell's lap and splashing violently across the trousers of Alejandro's custom-tailored suit.
