Finally, Chloe turned her attention to the youngest of the investors, Lorenzo Romano, the Italian shipping heir who had remained silent, watching the waitress with a mixture of awe and terror.
"Signor Romano," Chloe said softly, slipping into fluid, expressive Italian.
"And to Mr. Romano," Chloe said, her voice dropping in volume but echoing loudly in the dead-silent restaurant, "I am simply reminding him that his family spent three generations building a respected maritime empire. If he aligns with Caldwell Equities, his family's pristine legacy will be dragged into an international embezzlement scandal. You are a fraud, Richard. You are a thief who sacrifices your own people to save yourself. And I am telling him not to hand you the keys to his kingdom."
The silence in Laura was absolute. The background jazz music had stopped. The wealthy patrons at the surrounding tables had entirely abandoned their expensive meals, staring open-mouthed at the spectacular execution taking place at table seven.
Caldwell stood trembling, his ruined $8,000 suit dripping with vintage Bordeaux. He looked at the four billionaires. None of them were looking back at him; they were all staring at the waitress.
"Who the hell are you?" Caldwell whispered, his voice cracking, completely stripped of its former bluster. He stared at Chloe as if she were a ghost that had just walked out of his darkest nightmares. "Who sent you? Was it Morgan Stanley? Did the SEC put you up to this? You're wearing a damn apron!"
Chloe slowly reached behind her waist and untied the strings of her apron. She folded it meticulously in half, then in quarters, and placed it gently on the edge of the mahogany table, right next to Caldwell's spilled wine.
She looked up, delivering her final blows in her native tongue, the fifth and final language of the evening.
"I am speaking English now, Richard," Chloe said, her voice ringing with absolute clarity, "because I want you to understand every single syllable of your own destruction. You called me an illiterate peasant. You called me uneducated, worthless, and entirely replaceable. But the fatal flaw of men like you is that you never actually look at the people you step on."
She stepped away from the table, standing tall, her posture radiating the undeniable polish of the corporate elite.
"My name is Chloe Adams," she stated clearly.
