
Eggs Combined with Mugwort Are Very Beneficial — But These People Should Absolutely Avoid Them
Eggs cooked with mugwort have long been known as a nutritious and health-boosting dish. However, not everyone can safely consume it. Below are the health benefits of this combination, as well as the groups of people who should avoid eating it.
Health Benefits of Eggs with Mugwort
Mugwort contains essential oils with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps nourish the body, treat internal injuries, expel parasites, relieve abdominal pain, regulate menstruation, and can even be used externally for sprains. Because of this, mugwort is both a medicinal herb and an ingredient for delicious, nourishing dishes.
Eggs are rich in nutrients that help strengthen the body, soothe the throat, support pregnancy, ease cough and asthma, treat dysentery, and boost overall vitality. The egg yolk is warm in nature and nourishes the heart, spleen, and stomach—helping improve sleep and increase energy. When combined, eggs and mugwort create a healing dish that supports recovery and enhances overall health. The recommended amount is 1–2 eggs per day, eaten hot. However, overeating eggs can cause negative effects, so they should not be consumed daily for long periods.
People Who Should NOT Eat Eggs with Mugwort
1. People with hepatitis
According to VOV, the essential oils in mugwort—although medicinal—also contain compounds with potential toxicity. For those with hepatitis, eating eggs with mugwort can disrupt liver cell metabolism, leading to acute toxic hepatitis, jaundice, enlarged liver, and dark or cloudy urine.
2. Pregnant women
Studies show that consuming too much mugwort during the first trimester may increase the risk of bleeding and uterine contractions, potentially leading to miscarriage or premature birth.
3. People with acute intestinal disorders
Mugwort promotes urination and can act as a laxative. Those with intestinal inflammation or diarrhea should avoid it. People with kidney stones or coronary artery disease are also advised not to eat this dish.
4. People recovering from illness, the elderly, and postpartum women
They may eat mugwort with eggs only if they have none of the conditions above, and only one egg every other day. It is best combined with other nutritious foods such as fish, meat, and fruits. A cycle of every 7–10 days is considered ideal.
Foods That Should NOT Be Eaten Together with Eggs
1. Eggs with smoked meat
Both contain high levels of protein and fat. Eating them together can lead to sluggish digestion, fatigue, and excessive calorie intake.
2. Eggs cooked with sugar
When sugar is heated with eggs, amino acids react to form fructosyl lysine—a compound the human body cannot absorb. This reduces nutritional value and may even produce harmful substances that increase the risk of blood clots.
3. Eggs with soy milk
Soy milk contains trypsin inhibitors, which bind to egg proteins and reduce protein absorption. They can be consumed in the same meal only if processed correctly, such as drinking soy milk with fried eggs, or boiling soy milk thoroughly before mixing with egg yolk.
4. Eggs with tea
Tea contains tannic acid, which binds to egg proteins and slows intestinal movement. This can cause constipation and increase toxin buildup, raising long-term health risks.
5. Eggs with persimmons
Eating persimmons shortly after eggs can cause acute gastroenteritis and food poisoning, often leading to vomiting. Treatment requires inducing vomiting with saltwater or ginger water, followed by a laxative to remove toxins.
