Mop the floor with this, and it will be sparkling clean like new.
A few days ago, a woman with more than 30 years of experience working in cleaning shared with me a simple but highly effective secret for cleaning floors. According to her, this method not only makes floors spotless but also helps prevent dust buildup and unpleasant odors.
An Effective Floor-Cleaning Method Using Simple Ingredients
Before mopping, sweeping the floor is an essential step to remove loose dirt and dust, making cleaning more effective.
Next, prepare the following ingredients to add to your mop water:
-
A small amount of coarse salt: Salt helps floors dry faster and has disinfecting and antibacterial properties.
-
A few drops of dishwashing liquid: This helps remove grease and stubborn stains from the floor.
-
A little white vinegar or lemon juice: These help soften stains, making them easier to clean.
-
A small amount of alcohol: Alcohol disinfects and prevents the growth of bacteria and mold on floors.
-
A little baking soda: Baking soda has strong deodorizing and stain-removal abilities.
-
A small amount of hair conditioner: Especially in summer, adding conditioner helps reduce static electricity, preventing dust from clinging to the floor.
By combining these ingredients in your mop water, you’ll have a powerful cleaning solution that keeps floors clean and dust-free for longer.
You can also add a few drops of medicated oil or essential oil to the bucket. This not only creates a pleasant fragrance but also helps repel mosquitoes and insects.
After adding all the ingredients, stir well until fully dissolved. Dip the mop into the solution and clean the floor as usual.
You’ll notice that even very dirty floors become bright and clean after just one mop. With this method, you won’t need to mop frequently—your floors will stay clean and odor-free for days.
Three Additional Effective Floor-Cleaning Methods
1. Using Rice Rinse Water
Many people discard rice rinse water, but it’s actually excellent for cleaning floors. It won’t damage surfaces and even helps maintain them.
After sweeping, use rice rinse water to mop the floor. The floor will become noticeably cleaner, and the rinse water forms a thin protective layer that reduces dust buildup.
You can add a little white alcohol to the rice water. Alcohol disinfects and speeds up evaporation, preventing footprints from appearing after mopping.
2. Using Bar Soap
Bar soap can replace commercial floor cleaners.
Soak a bar of soap in warm water until it dissolves and forms a soapy solution. Use this water to mop the floor. It effectively removes dust and grease while also disinfecting, leaving the floor clean and shiny.
3. Using Laundry Detergent
Laundry detergent isn’t just for clothes—it can also be used to clean floors.
Add a small amount of laundry detergent to a bucket of water and mix well. This solution helps remove dirt and grease while leaving a light, pleasant fragrance in your home.
Important Notes for Floor Cleaning
-
Tiled floors are easier to clean than wooden floors. Wood floors can swell or peel if exposed to too much water.
-
Before mopping, remove clutter and vacuum to eliminate dust.
-
Use as little water as possible, especially on wooden floors, to reduce the risk of damage.
-
Choose appropriate cleaning products to avoid needing to mop repeatedly.
-
Let floors air-dry naturally after cleaning.
-
Try to clean stains thoroughly in one pass rather than mopping repeatedly.
-
Open windows to improve ventilation and speed up drying. Once dry, wipe wooden floors with a soft cloth to enhance shine.
-
On humid days, avoid wet mopping. Use a dry cloth instead to reduce indoor moisture.
-
During damp weather, avoid opening doors wide, as excess humidity can make floors wetter and uncomfortable.
