She began arguing that this could ruin reputations, marriages, cost jobs. Logan listened to everything with the same silence he had used to hear her confession. Then he replied that was exactly what the truth does: it collects the price the lie delayed.

Vanessa sat down, hands on her head, murmuring half-formed sentences. She tried to justify again, saying she was confused, that it wasn't intentional, that it was emotional and temporary.

But Logan interrupted. He said that of everything he had heard so far, the most painful thing was realizing she was still trying to find ways to save herself instead of recognizing what she had destroyed.

He went to the office, opened a folder, and retrieved the divorce papers. He had filled them out quietly in the early morning hours. He placed the documents on the coffee table in the living room. He said he didn't want to fight over anything, that she could keep whatever she wanted; he only wanted to leave with some dignity, with the bit of peace he could still salvage.

He packed some clothes into a backpack, grabbed his wallet and keys, and walked toward the door. Vanessa followed, saying she still loved him, that she didn't want to lose everything they had built together.

But Logan had already heard every word he needed to hear. He simply said, "You lost it when you thought I would never leave."

And he walked out without slamming the door. He closed it firmly, with the same firmness of someone deciding, through pain, to rebuild their life from scratch.
