“I’m sitting in my own vehicle.”
“During a traffic stop.”
“I haven’t done anything.”
“You have refused to provide your license.”
“That’s my constitutional right.”
“It is not.”
“You don’t know the Constitution.”
Nathan nodded slowly.
“Okay.”
“There it is again.”
“What?”
“That condescending ‘okay.’”
Nathan placed one hand near his belt.
“Ma’am, unlock the door and step out of the vehicle.”
“No.”
“This is a lawful order.”
“No.”
“Step out.”
“No.”
Lisa moved toward the rear driver’s-side door.
Locked.
Nathan tried the front handle.
Locked.
The woman pulled her phone closer.
“Do not touch my car.”
“Step out.”
“You’re threatening me.”
“I am ordering you to exit the vehicle.”
“For what crime?”
“I’ve already explained this.”
“No, you haven’t.”
Nathan pointed toward the camera mounted on his chest.
“It’s all recorded.”
“So is mine.”
“Good.”
The woman looked almost offended that the threat had no effect.
Nathan leaned slightly toward the window.
“I’m going to explain this very clearly.”
She remained silent.
“You are required to provide your driver’s license during this traffic stop. You have repeatedly refused. You have been lawfully ordered out of the vehicle. You are refusing that too.”
She opened her mouth.
Nathan held up his hand.
“I’m not done.”
She glared at him.
“If you do not unlock the door and exit voluntarily, we will remove you from the vehicle.”
“You cannot break into my car.”
“We may use reasonable force to remove you.”
“If you break my window, I’m suing you.”
“That is your right.”
The answer seemed to catch her off guard.
“You admit I can sue?”
“You can file whatever legal action you choose afterward. Right now, you need to exit.”
The woman turned toward her camera.
“Everybody watching this, please record. They’re threatening to break into my vehicle because I won’t waive my rights.”
Nathan looked at Lisa.
Lisa quietly said, “She’s livestreaming.”
Nathan nodded.
That explained some of the performance.
“What’s your name, ma’am?” Lisa asked.
The driver looked at her.
“You already asked.”
“And you never answered.”
“I’m not required to answer.”
Nathan raised his voice slightly.
“Final warning. Unlock the door.”
“No.”
“Step out.”
“No.”
“If you do not step out, the window will be broken.”
The woman stared at him.
“You wouldn’t dare.”
Nathan stepped back.
Lisa moved away from the glass.
Nathan retrieved a window-breaking tool from his belt.
The woman’s confidence flickered.
“Are you serious?”
