I said, "Exactly what I told you would happen."
He ran toward the Porsche, but the tow driver held up one hand.
"Do not interfere with a legal tow."
The son turned red. Then he screamed, "Mom!"
That was when the real show started.
His mother came running like the world was ending. Not walking. Running. She had her phone in one hand and keys in the other, yelling, "Stop! Stop right now!"
The tow driver stayed calm. "Ma'am, this vehicle is illegally parked on private property."
She pointed at me. "He's doing this because he's jealous."
I almost laughed again. Jealous of what? The car only had two good tires.
The tow driver looked down. That was when he noticed something strange. The rear tires did not match the front ones. One side sat too low. The undercarriage looked recently scraped, and the passenger side had a fresh mark where something had been fastened underneath.
He frowned and said, "Hold on."
When the tow truck lifted the front of the Porsche, a small metal box slipped loose from underneath the passenger side. It hit the driveway with a sharp bang.
Everyone froze.
The son's face went white.
His mother stopped yelling instantly.
The tow driver looked at me. I looked at the box.
