I did not react. I just kept recording.
The officer said, "Ma'am, step back."
She refused. Then she pointed at me again and said, "This would not have happened if he had just let my son park there."
That sentence basically admitted everything.
Her son closed his eyes. He knew she had just buried him.
After more checking, the truth came out piece by piece. The Porsche had been reported damaged in an insurance claim two towns over. The plates did not belong to it. The ownership papers were fake. The missing parts matched reports from other cars that had been stripped in the area.
That explained why he kept parking in my driveway.
He was not just being lazy. He was hiding the car somewhere that did not point back to his house. My driveway was supposed to be the shield. I was supposed to look like the problem if anyone came asking.
But my cameras changed that.
When I called the tow truck, I thought the payback was simple. He parks in my driveway, he pays the towing bill, he learns a lesson. That was it.
I did not expect police. I did not expect fake papers. I did not expect his mother to stand on my lawn silent for the first time since I met her.
The son kept saying, "I didn't steal it."
The officer said, "Then you can explain everything downtown."
They placed him in the cruiser. His mother cried because people were watching.
And now they were not just watching from behind curtains.
They were outside.
