Barbie Forteza on being compared to Kathryn Bernardo: ‘It’s an honor for me!’

'That Kind of Love' star Barbie Forteza talks about adjusting from television acting to movie acting.

With the showing date of her first movie with love team partner David Licauco approaching next month, actress Barbie Forteza said that more than hoping that the film will be a blockbuster, she hoped the audience can appreciate their entire production.

"I always hope that our main purpose is to put out a good film. To bring back quality films, people will only watch Filipino films in the cinema, not Hollywood films. Filipino-made films first before Hollywood films. That is the purpose of all of us apart from this project, it's about the entirety of the film industry here in the Philippines. To revive the Filipino film industry. It's good to watch this on a first date in the cinema, so they can realize what love is like," she said.

After doing several television projects with David which has led to the popularity of their love team called "BarDa," Barbie admitted there is also pressure to maintain their onscreen pairing.

"The pressure is to maintain the love team, the strength of the love team because from the beginning, our team was unexpected. The pressure is coming from how to maintain him and I hope we can make the most of the partnership and not lose our friendship, the consistency of the love team. It also helps that we have the same management. We are both under Sparkle so we will be guided properly as a love team," she explained.

During the grand presscon for That Kind of Love, Barbie candidly shared how she feels about being likened or compared to kapamilya star Kathryn Bernardo.

"I don't know how to answer that because I have to admit, Kathryn is someone I look up to in showbiz because she really handles her personal (life) and career really well. And so to be acknowledged or to be noticed somehow, it's an honor for me. I hope we both get a job. He is one of the actors I want to work with and admire of our generation," she admitted.

During the event, Barbie also shared how challenging it was for her to adjust from acting in teleseryes to acting for the big screen.

"It's really different. In the film, we can afford to shoot fewer scenes, but there are many angles. We do it multiple times that the energy and level of emotions must be the same. So challenging if the dialogue is long and you have to repeat it many times.

"In movie acting, I learned to reduce the acting because this will be shown on the big screen. You move a little bit and I can see you right away, so the approach should be subtle. Even a rom-com is tiring because the scene is the same, but You have to be thrilled at the same level of excitement, there must be no difference, the repeated emotion (the challenge).

The second film offering of Pocket Media Productions, the movie's story revolves around two imperfect people played by Barbie Forteza and David Licauco who are entangled by fate because of their search for love. That Kind of Love is directed by Catherine O. Camarillo and written by Ellis Catrina. The film also stars Ivan Carapiet, Al Tantay, Arlene Muhlach, Jef Gaitan, Divine Aucina, and Kaila Estrada. It opens in cinemas nationwide on July 10. Produced by Pocket Media Productions Inc. and distributed by Regal Entertainment.
