Is your pan losing its non-stick coating? Add a few drops of this, and your old pan will be like new again.

How to Restore the Non-Stick Coating of a Pan

Using Milk

A simple and cost-effective way to restore the non-stick coating of a pan is to use fresh milk. Milk contains the protein casein, which, when exposed to high heat, can bond and form a protective layer on the surface of the pan, helping it quickly regain its non-stick properties.

Steps:

  1. Pour enough milk to completely cover the bottom of the pan (you can use sweetened or unsweetened fresh milk).

  2. Turn on the stove and bring the milk to a boil for about 5 minutes over medium heat. Avoid using high heat to prevent the milk from overflowing.

  3. Once the milk boils, turn off the heat and pour the milk out, then wash the pan thoroughly to remove any milk odor.

  4. Test the non-stick surface by frying an egg. If the egg flips easily and does not stick, the non-stick coating has been restored.

Another Method Using Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 1 potato

  • A small amount of salt

Instructions:

  1. Peel, wash, and drain the potato, then cut it in half.

  2. Sprinkle salt on the cut surface of one half and rub it over the surface of the pan to clean it.

  3. Use the other half of the potato to rub the bottom of the pan or areas where the non-stick coating has peeled off.

  4. After rubbing, rinse the pan with water and dry it thoroughly.

For pans that have been used for a long time, the non-stick coating often wears off, causing food to stick easily and the pan to rust. Potatoes contain natural acids that help remove rust effectively. In addition, riboflavin and folate in potatoes can interact with Teflon, helping support the natural restoration of the pan’s non-stick surface.

Restoring a Non-Stick Pan with Coconut Oil

Another simple and effective way to restore the non-stick coating of a pan is to use coconut oil combined with salt. This method both cleans the pan and helps renew its non-stick ability.

Ingredients and tools needed:

  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil

  • Salt

  • Paper towels

Steps:

  1. Place the pan on the stove, add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and spread it evenly over the entire surface.

  2. Heat the oil for about 2–3 minutes, then pour it out.

  3. Sprinkle salt evenly over the surface of the pan and use a paper towel to gently rub in circular motions.

  4. Discard the excess salt and use a clean paper towel to wipe away any remaining oil and salt.

Note: This method provides a temporary restoration of the non-stick coating. After several uses, the non-stick effect may gradually decrease, and you can repeat these steps to maintain the results.
