"Sit down."
"I am fine standing."
Boone glanced at the cuffs. "You have been standing for a while."
"I noticed."
He stepped inside and closed the door behind him, leaving it unlocked this time. "Your people are going to start looking for you eventually."
Maya did not respond.
"That means we have a limited amount of time."
"For what?"
"To understand what happened."
Maya looked toward the desk outside where Mercer was still working. "You already understand what happened."
Boone folded his arms. "You were stopped because the motorcycle had an identification problem."
"No."
"You refused to cooperate."
"No."
"You interfered with an inspection."
"No."
Boone stared at her. "You enjoy saying that word?"
"I am trying to save you time."
He lowered his voice. "You think this is funny?"
"No."
"Then tell me what the FBI has."
Maya did not answer.
Boone stepped closer. "How many seizure cases are in that file?"
Silence.
"How many towing companies?"
No answer.
"How many people inside this department have spoken to you?"
Maya looked at him carefully. "You are assuming someone inside the department has spoken to us."
Boone paused.
Maya continued. "That is useful."
He said nothing.
"You also asked about towing companies before I mentioned them."
Boone's expression changed slightly. Maya looked toward the federal file on the desk outside.
