The secret button on a computer with ‘magical’ functions that not everyone knows about
A cleaning enthusiast surprised many people after revealing a secret button on her washing machine that can be extremely helpful for cleaning the appliance thoroughly.
Mindy McKnight shared this discovery in a video with her 688,000 followers on TikTok.
The video begins with her pulling out the detergent and fabric softener drawer and pointing to a small button.
She says: “Have you ever wondered what this button on the detergent drawer is for? Watch this.”
Mindy explains that when you press the button, the drawer slides out completely, making it much easier to clean.

Mindy McKnight shares how to remove the detergent drawer and then clean it to eliminate mold and dirt.
She then takes the drawer to the sink and uses soap to remove all the built-up mold, mildew, and fabric softener residue.
Mindy adds: “If your machine doesn’t have that button, you can use lemon juice, pour it into the compartments, then add baking soda, and you’ll see it start to react.”
“Next, use a brush to scrub everything clean. Make sure to remove the top cover as well to replace it…”
Mindy’s video has attracted more than 24,000 likes, with many cleaning enthusiasts heading to the comments section to share their thoughts.
One commenter wrote: “So glad I found this video. I’ve wanted to clean my washing machine for a long time but was afraid of breaking it.”
Another shared: “I’ve been wondering what that button was for since I was six, and now I’m 15 — thank you.”
A third commented: “Once again, TikTok has taught me more than school.”
Another person said: “Alright, I’m heading straight to my washing machine now.”

Washing machines need cleaning too!
Previously, the UK newspaper The Sun also reported on another secret button that may be on your washing machine.
Some modern washing machines have a “self-clean” mode. A woman who calls herself the “Cleaning Queen,” Lynsey, shared this tip on her TikTok page, showing just how simple it is to use.
She advises: “Turn the machine on and hold the rinse button for five seconds to activate this mode. Then let the magic happen!”
In the caption, Lynsey explained that using the self-clean mode “helps keep your washing machine smelling fresh, clean, and running at its best.”
She concluded by saying: “Let’s be honest, even washing machines need cleaning sometimes! Give it a try and let me know if you’ve used it!”
Dishwashers are convenient, but making these four mistakes means you might as well wash by hand instead.
