Tips for cleaning greasy plastic and glass containers without scrubbing

Cleaning Food Containers with Oil Stains

Food containers that have oil and grease stains can be difficult to clean, especially plastic ones. Even with thorough washing using hot water and dishwashing detergent, it’s often impossible to completely remove the stains or the greasy feel left behind.

To clean oil and grease from food containers, you can try the following methods:

1. Cleaning Plastic and Glass Containers with Oil Stains
You can add a bit of warm water to the container, along with some dishwashing detergent and 2-3 sheets of paper towels. Then, close the lid and shake it vigorously for at least 10 seconds. This method helps the paper towels absorb the oil, and you simply need to wash the container with water to finish.

2. Using Cornstarch and Vinegar
Mix one teaspoon of cornstarch with vinegar to form a paste. Apply this paste evenly inside the container. This mixture will help absorb the grease stains. Afterward, just wash the container with dishwashing detergent and clean water as usual.

3. Using Baking Soda
Baking soda is widely used for cleaning, especially for removing tough stains like oil. If you have baking soda available in your kitchen, you can use it to clean plastic or food containers with grease stains. Mix baking soda with water in a 3:1 ratio to create a paste. Apply the paste to the container and leave it overnight. The next day, simply wash the container with dishwashing detergent as usual.

4. Using Vinegar
Vinegar is effective at cleaning grease stains due to its acetic acid content. Take a paper towel, soak it in vinegar, and wipe it all over the container, focusing on the areas with the most oil stains. For better results, you can let it sit for a few minutes and then wash the container with dishwashing detergent as usual.

5. Using Lemon
Lemon is excellent for cleaning and deodorizing. You can cut a fresh lemon in half and rub it around the container, focusing on the areas with the most oil stains. Let it sit for 1-2 hours to allow the acid in the lemon to help remove the grease stains more effectively. Afterward, wash the container with dishwashing detergent and clean water as usual.

6. Using Hot Saltwater
This method is widely used for cleaning grease from cooking and food containers. You just need to prepare a bowl of hot water and add some salt. Stir until the salt dissolves. Then, soak the items you want to clean in the water for about 10 minutes. Afterward, remove the items and wash them with dishwashing detergent as usual. This method will completely remove the grease stains. However, for plastic containers, check if the container can handle high temperatures before using hot water for cleaning.
