Judge Kessler called a fifteen-minute recess. As the gallery emptied, Simone felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned to find Mrs. Walker standing there, tears in her eyes.

"I'm so sorry I almost backed out," the elderly woman whispered. "Watching you fight like this... it reminds me of your grandfather. He never let them intimidate him, either."

Simone hugged her, drawing strength from the connection to her community and her family's legacy.

When she returned to the defense table, she found a note had been slipped into her grandfather's briefcase: Loading dock security camera number three, the note read in Ashley's handwriting. Check the blind spot timing.

Simone quickly pulled up the warehouse blueprints, comparing them to the security camera layouts. Her eyes widened as she spotted something they'd all missed.

"Dad," she whispered, showing him her discovery. "Look at this: Camera number three doesn't cover the loading dock entrance. There's a four-minute gap in the coverage where anyone could have entered unseen."

Marcus studied the documents. "And that gap lines up with the exact time they claim you were there."

Simone's mind raced. "They didn't just edit the footage; they chose that specific time because they knew there wouldn't be evidence to contradict it."

The bailiff called the court back to order. Victoria Hale approached the bench, requesting to call a surprise witness. Simone tensed, preparing for another ambush, but this time she was ready.

As Richard Bancroft himself strode to the witness stand, his expensive suit and confident smile projecting absolute authority, Simone felt strangely calm. Let him testify. Every lie they told was another opportunity to expose the truth.

She opened her grandfather's briefcase, touching the worn leather for luck. William Johnson had faced men like Bancroft before: wealthy, powerful men who thought their money put them above the law. He'd taught her that justice doesn't bow to power.

The afternoon sun slanted through the courthouse windows, casting long shadows across the floor. In those shadows, Simone could almost see her grandfather standing beside her, ready to help her fight one more battle for justice.

Victoria Hale began her questioning, but Simone barely heard her. She was focused on her notes, on the patterns emerging from all the prosecution's carefully constructed evidence. They'd been so focused on creating a perfect narrative that they'd forgotten one crucial detail: the truth doesn't need to be perfect—it just needs to be true.

As Bancroft testified about his company's legitimate business practices and community development plans, Simone allowed herself a small smile. The man who thought he could crush a teenage girl with manufactured evidence and bought testimony was about to learn a hard lesson about underestimating his opponents.

The truth, as her grandfather always said, has a way of coming out. Sometimes it just needs someone brave enough to help it along.
