"I don't micromanage every aspect of my business," Bancroft deflected. "If some properties face legal issues—"

"—legal issues that your company manufactured," Simone interrupted. "Like the health code violations suddenly filed against every restaurant that wouldn't sell, or the building code complaints against every homeowner who refused your offers?"

Bancroft's jaw clenched. "You can't prove—"

"I can prove all of it." Simone held up Peterson's files. "Every email, every memo, every directive coming directly from your office. Including this one, dated September 1st, where you explicitly ordered your team to 'make an example' of my family."

She pressed on, methodically dismantling his denials with each question. His arrogance cracked further, revealing the desperation beneath.

"You thought nobody would stand up to you," Simone continued. "That money and power could buy anything, that you could destroy an entire community just to increase your profit margins."

"You don't understand business!" Bancroft snapped. "That neighborhood is wasted space! My development would bring progress, improvement!"

"Improvement for who? The families you'd displace? The communities you'd destroy?"

"Those people should thank me! I offered fair prices for their worthless properties! But no, they had to be difficult, had to stand in the way of progress! Sometimes people need to be taught—" He stopped abruptly, realizing what he'd admitted.

The courtroom was dead silent. Simone let his words hang in the air for a moment before asking quietly, "Taught what, Mr. Bancroft? That nobody says no to you? That you can burn down buildings and frame innocent people if they don't bow to your wishes?"

Bancroft exploded. "You think you're so clever, little girl! Playing lawyer with your grandfather's hand-me-down briefcase! You have no idea what real power is! I own this city! A few documents won't change that! There will always be more judges, more lawyers, more ways to get what I want!"

"Thank you, Mr. Bancroft," Simone said calmly. "No further questions."

Judge Williams' gavel cracked like thunder. "Deputies, take Mr. Bancroft into custody! The jury is instructed to consider his outburst as part of their deliberations."

As Bancroft was led away in handcuffs, still shouting threats, Simone returned to the defense table. Her parents sat there crying openly, while the gallery erupted in cheers and applause.

"Order!" Williams commanded. "Miss Johnson, are you prepared to make your closing argument?"
