The email arrived at 2:47 a.m., its sender hidden behind layers of anonymity. Simone sat alone in her family's darkened living room, the laptop's glow illuminating her tired face as she read:

I worked in Bancroft's financial department for six years. I have proof the warehouse fire was insurance fraud. Meeting must be in person: tomorrow, 5:00 a.m., Riverside Park near the old carousel. Come alone.

Her finger hovered over the delete button. This could be a trap, another of Bancroft's manipulations. But after today's revelations about the security camera blind spots and financial interference, she couldn't ignore any potential lead.

The house creaked, making her jump. Her parents' bedroom door opened upstairs, and Sarah's worried voice carried down. "Simone, baby, are you still up?"

"Just reviewing some documents, Mama," she called back, quickly closing the email. Her mother didn't need more reasons to worry.

Dawn was breaking over Riverside Park as Simone approached the carousel, her grandfather's briefcase clutched tightly. The morning fog rolled in from the river, shrouding the area in gray mist. Her heart pounded as a figure emerged from the shadows.

"Miss Johnson?" The man was middle-aged, unremarkable in his brown suit and wire-rimmed glasses. "Thank you for coming. I'm Michael Peterson."

Simone maintained her distance. "You worked for Bancroft?"

"Until last week." Peterson glanced nervously over his shoulder. "What I'm about to show you... it could get me killed. But I can't stay quiet anymore." He pulled a flash drive from his pocket, along with a stack of documents. "The warehouse fire wasn't random. Bancroft planned it months ago. The building was insured for three times its value through shell companies. Here's the proof."

Simone accepted the documents with trembling hands: internal memos, insurance policies, bank transfers—a paper trail leading directly to Richard Bancroft.

"Why?" she asked. "Why frame my family?"

"Two birds, one stone." Peterson's voice was bitter. "Collect the insurance money and eliminate the biggest obstacle to his development plans. Your family's resistance was inspiring others to stand against him. He needed to make an example of you."

Movement in the fog made them both tense.

"I have to go," Peterson whispered. "Be careful who you trust. Bancroft has people everywhere."

He melted back into the mist, leaving Simone alone with explosive evidence and mounting fear. The documents felt like fire in her hands, powerful enough to destroy Bancroft, but equally capable of burning anyone who held them.
