"Was his name David?" Lisa asked quietly.William stopped walking. "How do you know that?"Lisa exchanged a look with Tom, the security guard. "Because he's been coming here for weeks—not inside the building, but outside. He sits on the bench across the street and listens to our rehearsals."This was news to William. "What do you mean, he listens to rehearsals?"Tom stepped forward. "Sir, I've seen him, too. Every day around practice time, he's there on that bench. Never causes trouble, never asks for money, just sits and listens. Sometimes I see him when I'm doing my rounds outside."William felt confused. "Why didn't anyone tell me about this?""Because he wasn't doing anything wrong," Lisa explained. "The bench is on public property. He has the right to sit there. And honestly, he seemed harmless.""Harmless?!" William's voice got louder. "He broke into our building! He was touching our piano!"Lisa raised her hands to calm him down. "I know, and that's not okay. But William, there's something you should know about him."Before Lisa could continue, Roberto, the night janitor, walked up to them. Roberto was an older man who had been cleaning the concert hall for over twenty years. He knew everything that happened in the building, even things that others missed."Excuse me," Roberto said in his gentle voice. "Are you talking about the young man who was here yesterday?""Yes," William replied. "Did you see him, too?"Roberto nodded. "I see him almost every night. He sleeps in the alley behind our building. Always very quiet, very respectful. He never makes a mess or causes problems."William couldn't believe what he was hearing. "So everyone knew about this except me?""We didn't think it was important," Lisa said. "Lots of homeless people sleep in that alley. Most of them move on after a few days. But David... he's different."
