Mia looked up at her father with pleading eyes. "Please, Daddy, I've never been to a real theater before. And Emma says there's going to be an orchestra."

Before Ethan could respond, Victoria gently touched his arm.

"If you're worried about attire, don't be. I have a stylist who owes me several favors. And if you're concerned about feeling out of place, remember that half the people there will be business clients of mine who wouldn't know genuine kindness if it hit them with a wrench."

"Mom," Emma stage-whispered. "You're not supposed to say that about your clients."

"You're right," Victoria laughed. "What I meant to say is that you and Mia would be the most authentic people there, and Emma and I would be honored to have you as our guests."

Looking at the hope in both girls' faces, Ethan felt his resistance crumbling.

"Okay," he said finally. "But I need to be clear about something. I can't afford to reciprocate this kind of generosity. Dinner at Chuck E. Cheese is more my speed for return invitations."

"Chuck E. Cheese sounds perfect," Victoria said without hesitation. "Emma loves arcade games, and I haven't had decent pizza in months."

"Really?" Emma's eyes lit up. "Can we go after your piano thing, Mom, please?"

As they stood in the parking lot making plans, Ethan realized something fundamental had shifted. What had started as a chance encounter was becoming something more complex and meaningful.

Victoria wasn't just offering charity or conducting a business transaction. She was genuinely interested in becoming part of their lives. And her daughter was already halfway to adopting them as family.

"There's one more thing we should discuss," Victoria said as Emma and Mia continued their animated conversation about favorite songs and dance moves. "The business contract I mentioned. Are you free Monday morning? I'd like you to come to Sterling Dynamics, meet my team, and see exactly what kind of partnership we're proposing."

Ethan nodded, feeling simultaneously excited and terrified. "I can make that work. What time?"

"10:00 a.m. I'll send a car."

"A car isn't necessary. I can drive myself."

"Ethan," Victoria said with a smile that made his pulse quicken. "I'm asking you to consider handling automotive services for a company with a fleet of 40 vehicles and 300 employees. The least I can do is make sure you arrive comfortably."

As they finally said goodbye and headed to their respective vehicles, Emma called out one last time, "Mr. Rodriguez, don't forget to practice being fancy for Friday night."

"What does that mean?" Mia asked as they got into his pickup truck.

"I have absolutely no idea," Ethan admitted, watching Victoria's SUV pull away. "But I guess we're about to find out."

Driving home, Mia chatted excitedly about Emma, the upcoming theater performance, and how Victoria had complimented her dancing.

"Daddy, do you think Emma's mom is pretty?" Mia said during a brief pause in her monologue.

Ethan nearly swerved into the next lane. "Mia, that's not really..."

"Because Emma told me her mom thinks you're handsome. She said her mom kept asking questions about you after they visited your shop."
