"Essentially," added David Kim, their operations director, "we want to bring Rodriguez Auto Repair's values to a larger scale while giving you the resources to help even more people."

The meeting continued with tours of other facilities, discussions of implementation timelines, and detailed breakdowns of benefits packages that included health insurance, retirement contributions, and educational funding for dependents.

By the time they returned to the executive conference room, Ethan's head was spinning with possibilities and concerns in equal measure.

"This is overwhelming," he admitted finally. "In the best possible way, but still overwhelming. What happens to my current shop?"

Victoria exchanged glances with her team. "We've actually given that some thought. Sterling Dynamics would be interested in purchasing the Rodriguez Auto Repair Building and establishing it as a community training center."

"You'd maintain ownership of the business name and philosophy, but it would become a place where young people could learn automotive skills while serving neighborhood customers who need affordable repairs."

"Think of it as your legacy expansion," David added. "The original shop maintains its community mission while you develop something larger here."

Emma's voice suddenly echoed from the conference room doorway. "Mr. Rodriguez, Mom said you were here."

She burst into the room, still wearing her school uniform, followed by a slightly embarrassed looking Victoria.

"Emma, we talked about this. Mr. Rodriguez is in a business meeting."

"But I wanted to show him my new piano piece," Emma protested, then looked around at the serious-faced executives. "Oh, this is the important grown-up stuff, isn't it?"

Ethan found himself smiling for the first time all day. "Actually, I think hearing your new piece sounds perfect right now."

Victoria started to protest, but Jennifer Lou was already standing. "There's a piano in the executive lounge. Why don't we take a break?"

In the elegant lounge overlooking downtown Phoenix, Emma settled at a baby grand piano and launched into a simplified version of Clair de Lune.

Her technique was impressive for her age, but what struck Ethan most was her confidence. She played like she belonged at that piano in that room in that world of corporate elegance.

When she finished, the small audience of executives applauded warmly and Emma beamed. "I'm still learning the hard parts, but Mom says practice makes progress, not perfect."

"Your mom is very wise," Ethan said, meeting Victoria's eyes across the room.

Later, as Patricia drove him back to his shop, Ethan's phone buzzed with a text from Victoria.

"No pressure on timing. Take whatever time you need to think it through. But Emma wants me to tell you that she thinks the corporate facility needs someone who understands that cars have feelings."

Back at Rodriguez Auto Repair, Ethan found Mia doing homework at his desk while Mrs. Chen handled the register.

The familiar sounds and smells of his shop. Oil, metal, the whir of pneumatic tools felt both comforting and suddenly limiting after his morning in the corporate facility.

"How did it go, Daddy?" Mia looked up from her math worksheet.
