Water your peace lily with this water, and it will bloom all year round.

For Vietnamese households, the peace lily is an extremely familiar and well-loved ornamental plant. It is easy to care for, stays lush and green throughout the year, and can bloom repeatedly under the right conditions. With proper care and timely nourishment, peace lilies are even capable of flowering year-round. Because this plant does not require large amounts of nutrients, the most important factor is fertilizing correctly and in moderation—especially during the winter months when growth slows.

To encourage peace lilies to bloom, you do not need to rely on chemical fertilizers or expensive commercial products. There is a simple, cost-effective, and health-safe liquid fertilizer that can be made right at home using banana peels. When banana peels are soaked and allowed to ferment, the resulting liquid provides natural nutrients that help peace lilies grow vigorously and produce flowers more frequently.

Banana peel water can be used alternately with plain water and combined with other organic fertilizers to support faster and healthier growth. However, it is important to remember that peace lilies do not require excessive watering. Overwatering can easily lead to root rot, so only a moderate amount of water should be applied each time. When used properly, diluted banana peel water is a gentle and effective way to nourish peace lilies without harming the roots.

How to Make Banana Peel Water for Peace Lilies

After eating or preparing dishes with bananas, save the peels instead of discarding them. Cut the peels into small pieces and soak them in clean water. Place the container in a warm area to allow fermentation to occur more efficiently. After a few days, strain the liquid, dilute it with fresh water, and use it to water your peace lily. Never apply undiluted banana peel water directly to the plant, as the concentrated nutrients may burn the roots and negatively affect plant health.

The soaked banana peels should not be wasted either. They can be composted and used as organic fertilizer for outdoor plants such as bell peppers, tomatoes, roses, and hydrangeas. When planting new plants, you can sprinkle chopped banana peels beneath the soil layer or arrange them on the soil surface. Over time, the peels will gradually decompose, releasing nutrients into the soil. Additionally, banana peels may help repel certain garden pests, such as slugs, that can damage plants.

Beyond nutrition, providing the right growing conditions is essential for healthy peace lily development. This plant prefers moderate watering, indirect light, and a stable environment. Bright but indirect sunlight is ideal—light that is neither too intense nor completely shaded for long periods. Peace lilies thrive best in temperatures ranging from 18–24°C. During the active growing season in spring and summer, organic fertilizer can be applied periodically to support strong growth and flowering.

Overall, peace lilies are not difficult to care for. With a little attention and proper maintenance, they can remain lush, fresh, and vibrant, helping to purify the air and create a relaxing atmosphere in your living space. When peace lilies bloom, they bring added beauty and vitality to the home, offering a sense of calm and joy in everyday life.
