Why the U.S. Leads in Pig Farming but Pork Isn’t Popular
The United States is one of the largest pig-producing countries in the world, with massive farms supplying pork domestically and internationally. However, pork is not as favored in the U.S. compared to other meats like beef and chicken.
This trend comes down to cultural preferences and consumption habits. Americans traditionally lean towards beef for burgers and steaks, and chicken for its versatility and perceived health benefits. Pork, often associated with bacon or ham, is consumed less frequently as a main dish.
Interestingly, much of the pork produced in the U.S. is exported to countries where demand is higher, such as China and Japan, where pork is a staple in daily meals. This makes the U.S. a pork-producing giant, even though its own citizens don’t prioritize eating it.
