I simply nodded in response; no words were spoken.
She continued, expressing her understanding that I've been distant lately, partly due to my hearing loss, and her efforts to reconnect with me. She also apologized for the hurtful things she had said earlier, explaining that anger had led her to speak out of turn. She assured me of her loyalty and commitment to our relationship. Her opening words seemed positive, and I hoped this conversation would lead to a more open and honest dialogue.
In turn, I admitted that I hadn't been myself recently and expressed a desire for us to grow closer during the vacation. I carefully avoided mentioning Jason or the affair. We enjoyed a lovely romantic lunch together and returned to the resort holding hands.
The remainder of our stay was uneventful, with my wife making efforts to spend time with me. However, it still felt forced, as though she didn't really want to be there. Perhaps it was my mind playing tricks on me now that I was aware of the affair, and the image of my once pure and loyal wife had been shattered. I felt like I had been blind, but now I could see.
After our reconciliation during dinner, the kids no longer suspected anything was amiss. Still, I couldn't shake the feeling that something didn't add up.
