Now I sat across the dining table, my daughter positioned two chairs away to my right, and my wife sat on the opposite side. My daughter wore a shocked expression for at least a minute before she loudly whispered, "I knew it! I knew it!"
I remained in my seat observing the unfolding drama, my emotions mixed and uncertain about how to interpret the situation. My daughter approached me, offering a hug, and even though I didn't respond, she clung to me tightly. Meanwhile, my wife was openly sobbing, and I suspected my daughter was shedding tears as well.
Witnessing my wife's profound anguish, I felt genuine concern for her; I'd never seen her so distraught. Eventually, my wife got up and left the room, retreating to the guest room and shutting the door behind her.
My daughter asked if I was okay, and I assured her that I was. I explained that I had had sufficient time to process the information, and while I hadn't forgiven her mother, I did understand why it had happened. I also conveyed that I didn't want to keep them in the dark any longer, which was why I had pushed her to reveal the truth.
That night, I went to bed with a clear conscience, knowing that tomorrow was a new beginning and it was better to start with honesty rather than continue with lies.
