Her reaction was entirely unlike her and very peculiar. She vehemently denied everything and was deeply upset that I would even consider such a thing. She resorted to name-calling, even going so far as to call me deaf and a jerk. Her tactics worked, and she won the argument. I had no evidence, and there was nothing I could do because I lacked solid proof. She even insisted that I wasn't just losing my hearing, but also my sanity.
She was resolute and persuasive, raising her voice to the point where I feared my kids might hear her. The thought of my kids discovering my unfounded jealousy toward the young man they had known for over seven years—thinking he was being close with their mom—would be a disastrous and embarrassing situation.
By the end of it all, I found myself in a difficult spot: the one who had to apologize. I felt I should have been more patient, gathered more evidence before confronting her.
