How to Get Rid of Milia

You may have noticed small, firm, white bumps on your face that resemble tiny warts or pimples. These harmless bumps are called milia, and they form when keratin becomes trapped just beneath the surface of the skin. Although milia are completely benign and not connected to any underlying health condition, many people find them frustrating because they often appear in visible areas such as the cheeks, nose, or under the eyes.
Steam Baths
A steam bath is an excellent natural method to improve blood circulation, open clogged pores, and loosen dirt, oil, and dead skin cells. By softening the skin’s outer layer, steam makes it easier for trapped keratin to surface naturally over time. This approach not only helps reduce existing milia but also prepares the skin for other treatments, allowing exfoliants or masks to work more effectively. For best results, steam your face for about 5–10 minutes, keeping your skin at a comfortable distance from the heat.
Honey, Sugar, and Lemon Exfoliant
Honey and lemon are widely known for their powerful antibacterial, astringent, and antioxidant properties. Honey also acts as a humectant, helping the skin attract and retain moisture, while sugar provides a gentle but effective physical exfoliation. To create this natural scrub, mix one tablespoon of honey, a splash of fresh lemon juice, and a small amount of granulated sugar. Apply the mixture evenly across your face, allow it to sit for 15 minutes, then massage gently before rinsing thoroughly with warm water. Using this exfoliant regularly can help prevent the buildup of dead skin cells that contribute to milia formation.
Pomegranate Peel Treatment
Pomegranate is rich in nutrients and contains strong anti-inflammatory and antiseptic compounds that help soothe and purify the skin. To use this remedy, dry pomegranate peels, grind them into a fine powder, and mix the powder with a small amount of honey to form a smooth paste. Apply the paste to your face and leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. When used daily over the course of several weeks, this treatment may help reduce existing milia and improve overall skin texture.
Important Reminder
Avoid squeezing or picking at milia. Unlike pimples, milia do not have an opening at the surface, and attempting to extract them can lead to irritation, scarring, or even infection. Gentle and consistent skincare is the safest way to manage them.
